The Eagle (Reading 11) Dreams (Reading 15)
BY ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON (1809-1892) LANGSTON HUGHS (1901-1967)
He clasps the crag with crooked hands; Hold fast to dreams
Close to the sun in lonely lands, For if dreams die
Ring'd with the azure world, he stands. Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls; Hold fast to dreams He watches from his mountain walls, For when dreams go
And like a thunderbolt he falls. Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
